Grand Master Jun Kul Lee

8th Dan, Taekwondo

7th Dan, Hapkido

5th Dan, Haidong Gumdo

Grand Master Jun Kul Lee is one of only two internationally-ranked gold medalists in Taekwondo in all of MD, VA, DC, and PA.
Our story begins with Grand Master Jun Lee, a world and Asia champion in Taekwondo. Since 1999, 5,000+ students have gone through our school. We are a martial arts school that specializes in teaching self-discipline, self-control, and self-defense. We strongly believe that martial arts should strengthen both the body and character.
Our Taekwondo program maintains a membership through the World Taekwondo Federation and Kukkiwon.
As martial arts has grown in popularity over the years, the industry has become highly commercialized and profit-driven at the expense of a genuine experience. We are NOT a franchise or a “cookie-cutter” school. We are NOT a “belt factory.” You can expect a great level of flexibility and a highly personalized experience to meet your needs.
Grand Master Lee is the only international-level Taekwondo gold medalist (1981 World Games) in all of MD, DC, DE, and PA. He is also a gold medalist in the 1980 Asian Taekwondo Championships. He is currently an 8th degree black belt in Taekwondo (Kukkiwon), 7th degree black belt in Hapkido, and 5th degree black belt in Haidong Gumdo. He retired as 1st Lt. from S. Korea’s 707th Special Missions Battalion (the highest level of elite special operators in S. Korea) and as Capt. from S. Korea’s Secret Service.

Ronald Johnston

3rd Dan, Haidong Gumdo (Instructor)

1st Dan, Tang Soo Do

Ronald Johnston’s journey in martial arts began in elementary school while living in Tokyo, where he studied Judo for three years. Though Judo is more sport-oriented than combative, the experience sparked a lifelong passion for martial arts, one built on the joy of movement, discipline, and challenge.
After returning to the U.S. in 1966, Ronald’s training paused until 1971, when he moved to Columbia, Maryland, and began studying Tang Soo Do, a traditional Korean martial art. Since then, he has continued training in Tang Soo Do—with some pauses along the way—while also exploring traditional Jiu Jitsu fundamentals.
In 2002, Ronald was introduced to Haidong Gumdo by Grandmaster Jun K. Lee and began training in this dynamic Korean sword art. With its flowing forms, precision cuts, and elegant techniques like candle snuffing and bamboo cutting, Haidong Gumdo offered a perfect complement to the hard-style striking of Tang Soo Do. Ronald has remained an active student and instructor in both arts.
Professionally, Ronald holds two undergraduate degrees in education and spent several years teaching in both public and Christian school systems. He has also been a long-time Tang Soo Do instructor with TKA in Howard County.
In 1985, Ronald returned to graduate school and earned a Master of Architecture. After licensing in 1993, he founded his own residential architecture practice and has been serving clients in and around Howard County ever since.
